Destiny
The way I see it is that each character in this epic is given a reason to be there. So yes destiny does play a role. Strider himself is the protector to the four inexperienced hobbits,as they've never been on a journey outside their homeland. Frodo show's it too the reader throughout the book as he always wants Strider around, showing him as a comforting character to the hero. Merry and Pippin bring a sense of comedy to the group, as they always try and crack a joke whenever possible. Sam is there as a friend to Frodo which brings comfort to him yet again. Frodo himself is obviously there to bring evil to an end, which is his destiny clearly in his hero's journey. I cannot really comment on the rest of the characters as they haven't been introduced enough as far as I am in the book.

indep. book
My book "Counterfeit Son" is interesting and easy to follow. My character Cameron Miller is beginning his new life with a very nice family, the Laceys. He is starting to reveal a love for them in the recent readings. He is finally happy in his life. He enjoys sailing a lot, but cannot go without his sister, Diana. The only troubles he is encountering is when someone in the family asks him a question he, "Neil", should know. The two siblings he now lives with are not that ecstatic to see him back.
The old Neil was the spoiled one in the family. He always got the other two siblings in trouble. They really didn't enjoy his company back then. Although now since it is Cameron acting as Neil they like him a bit more because he's a lot more nice. Cameron is constantly afraid of getting punished because it used to mean beatings, but when he is getting punished by his "new" father he realizes that is not all that punishment is. Cameron has really dug himself into a hole that he cannot back out of at this point.
